Sheki (21) from MNL48 in Manila, who boasts one of the best singing abilities of any 48 group in the world, has started an unchallenged project. As part of a project, “Connect the world through songs”, Sheki has launched “Sheki Sings,” a stream of a duet with members of 48 sister groups from around Asia.
The second video was released on December 24, in collaboration with WENG TUNG-HSUN(24), a second-year trainee of AKB48 Team TP.
The song was originally performed by “Wham!”, a British group. The song had a completely different style than the ballad “I Love You 3000” with SGO48’s Kaycee (24), which was the first song of the collaborative project.
WENG, dressed in a Christmas-like burgundy and white checkered outfit, started the song. Sheki followed with her signature high notes. Sheki sang comfortably, and WENG sang with her hand on the chest from time to time, as if she was putting her heart into it.
In the chorus, they both sang with their hands on the headphones. The moment when they made a heart mark with their hands at the end was also a highlight. WENG said, “It was a dream come true for me to have the opportunity to sing with my Senpai Sheki. When I heard about it, I was so happy that I wrote back to my manager with a lot of !!!!!! marks”.
From that day until the actual performance, the song “Last Christmas” was playing in her dreams even while she was sleeping. She studied the song by watching YouTube videos of other people singing as well as Sheki singing it over and over again.
We got into the Christmas spirit ahead of time and had a lot of fun during the shoot. I’m glad that everyone can feel the joyful Christmas atmosphere through our cover.
