MNL48 performed at the “Manny Pacquiao Charity Marathon Tochigi 2022” at the CITY FOOTBALL STATION in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture on May 22.
The event was led by former professional boxer Manny Pacquiao (43), a former world champion to win major title’s in 8 divisions and a national hero in the Philippines. The charity marathon aimed at supporting the reconstruction of Cebu Island and other areas in the Philippines that were severely damaged by a major typhoon last December.
The special live performance featured Golden Bomber’s Sho Kiryuin, CYBER JAPAN DANCERS, and The Brow Beat. MNL48 was performed with AKB48.
First, Mizuki Yamauchi (20) and 7 other AKB48 members appeared on stage and started with AKB48’s latest single “Moto Kare desu”. Manaka Taguchi (18) introduced the 2 members of MNL48, AMY (19), and COLEEN (19) just before the final song saying, “They came to Japan just for this day,” the 2 members introduced themselves in Japanese.
Appearing in a see-through light purple costume, COLEEN expressed her gratitude in Japanese, saying, “Thank you all for supporting the Philippines. A total of 10 members performed a special version of the hit song “Koisuru Fortune Cookie” in a mixture of Japanese and Tagalog.
After finishing the stage successfully, COLEEN said, “It’s the first time for me and AMY to perform alone, and it’s also the first time for me to perform with the senior members of AKB48. My chest is so full. Mr.Pacquiao is a well-known person and it was a great honor for me to perform an event in Japan with such a person”.
Amy looked back and commented “I was overwhelmed to be able to perform with Senpai from AKB48, to have a dance and step together. And I was surprised to see not only the Japanese audience but also Filipinos”.
Pacquiao’s recognition is immense, and the venue was packed with many Filipinos living in Japan.
The marathon consisted of three races of 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km, with 1500 participants.
