“AKB48 Group Asia Festival 2021 ONLINE” was held at Tokyo Dome City Hall(TDC). An event where AKB48 and 7 of the Overseas sister groups (JKT48, BNK48, MNL48, AKB48 Team SH, SGO48, AKB48 Team TP, CGM48) performed.
A sizeable festival that connects and gathers a total of 150 members from each region of Asia online. This was the third time since it was held in Bangkok and Shanghai back in 2019. This year’s event was broadcasted as an online event to the world reaching approx. 470,000 audiences.
From AKB48, 16 members including Maho Omori, Nana Okada, Rin Okabe, Yui Oguri, Rena Kato, Yurina Gyoten, Satone Kubo, Narumi Kuranoo, Miu Shitao, Megu Taniguchi, Erii Chiba, Rei Nishikawa, Hitomi Honda, Tomu Muto, Yuiri Murayama and, Mizuki Yamauchi performed.
Satone Kubo who has performed in the previous event in Shanghai shouted out to the audiences “I was able to bond with the AKB48 Team TP members at previous Asia Festival and, I was looking forward to the reunion. Although I could not catch up in person, I am very happy to be able to participate in this form. Let’s have fun today!”
The live performance was showcased whilst having AKB48’ singing in-between sections, in the order of AKB48 Team TP、MNL48、JKT48、CGM48、AKB48 Team SH、SGO48 and BNK48. For the main show of the event, 9 songs were performed by AKB48 including old favorites such as “Flying get”. The show was wrapped up with “365 nichi no kamihikouki sang by all the groups.
The event, showed off each group’s personality with JKT48’s Big band jazz style arrangements and MNL48’s Voice percussion sessions.
The 3rd Asia Festival finished off with Nana Okada’s farewell message “AKB48 celebrated 15th-anniversary last year and, we want to keep moving forward towards our 16th year as well and we hope to have your continuing support. The next event location has now been decided to be held in Bangkok, I hope that all of you will look forward to it”, she left the stage with a promising message to meet once again.

The project where all of the performing groups of AKB48 Group Asia festival battled for points titled “TikTok ONLINE school culture festival’s” final result was announced at “AKB48 Group Asia Festival 2021 ONLINE”. The groups battled for points by posting school culture festival-like videos on TikTok’s official account and, BNK48 was crowned as the overall victor. The winning group BNK48, won the rights to host the next Asia festival in Bangkok, the rights to produce the official theme song, as well as the rights to be the main performer for the next Asia Festival.
